Daddy, why did the Stars leave Minnesota?

Once upon a time, 10+ years ago the
Stars left Minnesota and the sky fell black. The people, who had come to cherish the Stars and their luminescence, became very sad. All seemed dark and lost. But what the people didn’t know – couldn’t imagine – was that what lurked in that darkness was more fierce and ferocious than could ever be understood. For when the Stars left Minnesota and the land seemed dark, it gave way to the mightier power of the Wild. And the blood thirsty Wild will hopefully prove more powerful than any Canuck or Duck.

SPAM Man

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I detest SPAM. But managing a personal website that lists your email address only lends itself to be harvested at some point and sold to millions of greedy and illigitimate merchants everywhere, just waiting to fill your box with ads for personal webcams, viagra alternatives and my personal favorite: scams. This morning, I received my favorite scam in the form of spam:

Subject: Respond/confidential Matters

Dear Sir,

I will like to solicit your help in a business proposition, which is by nature very confidential and a Top Secret.
I know that a transaction of this magnitude will make any one worried and apprehensive but I am assuring you not to worry, as all will be well at the end of this endeavor.
I am Mr. Collins Emordi and I am the General Manager of the African Development Bank PLC and I and my partners have decided to seek your help in transfer of a huge sum of money requiring maximum confidence .

THE PROPOSITION
A foreigner, Dr.Edwards Marples who was an oil merchant and contractor with the Federal Government of Nigeria until his death onboard the ill fated Kenyan Airways bus {A310300}was our customer at the AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK and had a balance of US$32 .2 million which the bank now expects his next of kin to claim as the beneficiary. We have made valuable efforts to get his people to no avail as he had no known relatives, due to this development our management and our board of directors are making arrangements for the funds to be declared unclaimed and subsequently paid into the federal government purse and to avert this negative development me and my colleagues have decided to look for a reputable person to act as the next of kin to late Dr.Marples so that the funds will be released and paid into your account and this is where you come in.
All documents to aid your claim will be provided by me and my colleagues and for your help you will be getting a percentage of the total sum .
Please be assured that this transaction is risk free and we will need your fax number and phone number for more communication.
Please reply soon.

Collins Emordi

Dear Collins,

First of all, what the hell kind of name is that? You really think we’re that stupid? Americans think that Nigerians have names like Mohatma and Abudabi. Collins sounds more Irish than Nigerian. You can’t come up with anything better than Collins?

And second: I’m Polish. You really think I could sneak $32.2 million past the IRS as Mr, Marples’ next of kin? I’d be better off trying to pass myself off as the heiress to the Ming Dynasty. And even if I could, the inheritance taxes would kill me.

Well Collins, regardless of your ineptitude for running a good scam, my hat is off to you. I’m sure someone will respond.
