In case you're wondering because you hadn't heard from me, I didn't win the Powerball the other day. All we won was a measly $6. So we bought more tickets and are givin' it another try.

What will you do with your two million?
Today’s Powerball jackpot drawing is for a whopping $110 million. And in a spur of the moment, throw caution to the wind and fly by the seat of my pants decision, I decided to throw two bucks into the office pool for tickets. There are eleven of us which, if you’re doing shady math (with the immediate payout option) totals approximately $2 million per individual.

Naturally, the cubicle buzz today is about “What would you do with your two million?” Invariably, most around me would quit their jobs. I’m still trying to decipher whether this is just a common reaction or a true testament to the state of our workplace. Most eventually mention the purchases they’ll make or the payoff of purchases past. There is an occasional allusion to donations to family or friends or getaways to a small island in the South Pacific and in the midst of all of this, I find my sounder mind emerging and wondering how $110 million got whittled away to such a small number. While I’ll agree that the return on my investment is still unmatched by any mutual or hedge fund, in the realm of things the intended return was much greater.

And this gets me into some back patting on how rational I’m being with my millions. How, contrary to my co-worker’s frivolous indulgences, I would be the one to invest my money. I would be the one with some sense about her and would think rationally about my intended purpose for my newly endowed nest egg. And then I realize that I am spending money I have yet to win.
