A little Liberace
When we first moved into our house, I talked a lot about
making it ours instead of theirs. We've since filled the living rooms with new furniture, put up our own pictures and artwork and left nice deposits of shoes at the doorstep that signify that the place is now ours. At least, that's what I thought until this weekend.
Since August, our coffee table has been littered with paint swatches and those that have come within ten feet of the table have been surveyed as to what colors might look good over the pastels that the previous owners left behind. This weekend, we decided to do something about it and went to buy our first of many gallons of paint.
We repainted the entryway a rather stunning color of cinnamon, courtesy of Benjamin Moore. Until I saw the color, I had no idea that the previous one was so drab and at first glance, my reaction was to exclaim "How liberating!" Unil that moment, I hadn't realized that we hadn't shed the previous owners - we were just living in their skin.
Instead, the bright color made me think something completely different. While the color is liberating, it's also very Liberace -- its lively and flamboyant nature jumped off the walls at us as we stood in prideful awe of our masterpiece. Granted, I'm not about to toss silk throws over a grand piano and pull out a candelabra, but the color is as wonderful as cinnamon can look on a wall. Here's the oh, so exciting chronicals of last Sunday afternoon.
