Pass the ketchup, I’m doing my taxes
Tonight I took a stroll through the website of one of my
former employers. While they offer a service to the general public, I’ve been reluctant to use it since I’ve admittedly been a bit sour about our parting.

Over the past months I’ve heard both good and bad news about the establishment – not so much about their service but more so about the company’s condition. The boat was sinking when I was there, despite favorable reports in the media and last I had heard it was the same situation almost a year ago. Of course, that’s not news. Any slightly trained eye knows that the future isn’t bright when a start up reaches Round E of financing and stock is valued at .41 cents a share. At that point, you wish for the saving grace of a buyout from a larger, more stable brick-and-mortar.

But in a conversation with my spouse-to-be, I was prompted to visit the website and consider using their services. We do fit part of their demographic (dual-income households with little time), but not all of it (with children). Truthfully, it seems quite the statement of laziness that we might even consider it, since we live a mile from a SuperTarget that’s open until 11 p.m., as well as a Rainbow and Cub that are open 24/7.

So it was there, in the middle of their virtual shopping aisles that their selection confirmed the sentiment expressed in earlier paragraphs: the ship is indeed still sinking. Whether that’s true or not, one has to completely wonder when they see the Curb Your Enthusiasm Complete Second Season and Turbo Tax 2004 software next to the McGlynn’s doughnuts.

What sort of product mix is this? Do they truly believe that I might have the desire to buy toilet paper and orange juice from the same place as my HBO original series? Moreover, is this something that really could patch the holes in the ship?
