Death of the Dell
I love our Dell. I’ve loved it from the day it entered our house to this evening and will continue to do so. I don’t have the complaints that others do – the horrible, gut-wrenching stories of crashes and reformats which involve the loss of every photographic memory from years gone past, but our Dell is already three and a half, so we knew that recent events were inevitable.
Just prior to our departure for Vegas, I received a BSOD – blue screen of death – the beginning of the end. I realize that for the tech-savvy and thrill seeking types, the problem might be solved with a little memory here and a reformat there. For the rest of us, the result is too time consuming and the thought of a newer, sleeker, faster version gracing the desktop is so much more appealing. So when I realized the error was a FAT32 error and Ryan received the same error the following week, I knew it was just a matter of time before the end was upon us.
Subsequently, I spent the evening looking through pictures and files, deciding what needed to be backed up, what could be tossed and reminiscing on the quickly disappearing summer. Since early spring, we’ve planned a wedding, gotten married, dealt with the stress (and relief) of our parents meeting for the first time, watched some of our friends marry, vacationed in Vegas, threw a wedding shower for the Former Neighbors, attended and took part in a multitude of bachelor, bachelorette, cookout, wedding shower and watch-out-world-I’m-single-again parties, welcomed a nephew into the world and said goodbye to a friend that was much too young to die. While some of these weren’t caught on film, quite a few were, which I hope to be able to share via pictures quite soon.
